You have your new house now, have you considered the next step? Moving is a tiresome process and sometimes we forget what we have to do. Patriot Title Agency in Ohio ;brings you this small list of steps to take before moving in to your new home.

1. Pack a first night bag or box

Since you are most definitely not going to be done with the unpacking on your first day, you should have a box/ bag of essentials like toiletries, a change of clothes, toilet paper, pajamas. Just pack necessities.

2. Change the locks

You never know who might have a key to your new place. So as soon as the deal is done, install new locks on exterior doors or have a locksmith do it for you.

3. Connect your energy

You simply have to call your electricity provider to ask them to come and complete the whole disconnect (from the previous tenants) and reconnect (for you) process.

4. Change your address

Don’t rely on someone to forward your mail from your old home. Contact the post office, your bank, or whatever type of insurance you have about your change of address.

5. Clean the new place

You can hire a professional cleaner or, if you have time, do it yourself. ; Wash down cabinets and counters, clean the bathrooms, clean and vacuum carpets, sweep and mop every floor. It’ll help you feel like the place is truly your own.

6. Paint the walls and ceilings

There is no better moment than to do it before you move in, that way you won’t have to go through the hassle of moving all the furniture. While you are at it, fix whatever cracks or holes that need fixing. You may want to hire someone to do these things for you.

7. Have the heating and cooling systems serviced

It’s better to get these things out of the way instead of waiting midsummer or midwinter when you are bound to get overcharged. You can ask your new neighbors if they recommend any place close by.
